Biodiversity evaluation is not an easy task. Depending on the research question, biodiversity can be evaluated at different levels (i.e. ecosystems, species, genes). Besides, into each level there are different components or aspects to describe biodiversity. For instance, taxonomical diversity can be measured as richness (species number) or with an index that considers their abundances.To measure this complexity many methods and metrics have been (and are being) developed. Together with these metrics there has been developed many software to help in their calculation…..and of course, books that develop this topic with different approaches.
The objective of “BiodiversityTools” is create a space that facilitates to find these different tools, to discuss their performance, and to find out ways to improve them.

La evaluación de la biodiversidad no es una tarea fácil. Dependiendo de la pregunta de investigación, la biodiversidad puede ser evaluada a diferentes escalas, por ejemplo a nivel de ecosistemas, especies o genes. Ademas, dentro de cada nivel hay diferentes componentes o aspectos que pueden ser medidos, es decir la diversidad taxonómica puede ser medida como riqueza de especies (número de especies) o con indices que combinan sus abundancias. Para medir esta complejidad, diferentes métodos y métrica han sido desarrollada, y continúan desarrollándose. Junto con estas métricas, también se desarrollan programas de computación que ayudan en su cálculo, y por supuesto mucho libros que profundizan estos temas.
El objetivo de “BiodiversityTools” es crear un espacio que facilite el encontrar estos diferentes herramientas, discutir sobre sus comportamientos y encontrar maneras de mejorarlas.
